Yoga Etiquette

While Yoga practice has the potential of transforming one's life through regular discipline, a few aspects need to be observed in order to work safely and obtain the full benefits of the practice. While the following is offered as a guideline it is not comprehensive, moreover self-observance is encouraged as each organism is unique, thus the consideration of these principles may vary individually.

Allow a minimum of 2 hours after a meal before practicing.

It is best to drink water before and after class as water cools the body down. One of the purposes of asana practice is to generate cleansing inner heat, whereby this process is interrupted if water is taken in during the practice.

Leave your handphone in the locker room as they emit high frequency and sound waves that may be disturbing for others.

Arriving late might lead to injury as each class is structured in a progressive manner. Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes before class. All classes start on time. Once class starts, you will not be allowed to enter.

Please do not leave the studio while the class is in progress and it is not advisable to leave without relaxing down properly.

Attempting a class not suitable for you might lead to injury. Check with your teacher before attending the next level.

Inform your teacher of any relevant physical condition before the class so you might be advised of any relevant instructions.

Honour your breath as the basic support for life. Never hold or strain your breath in a pose or sacrifice a soft, long, deep breath for a “more advanced” asana. The perfect asana is that in which you can maintain a graceful breathing rhythm.

Value your process more than any “result”; is not about what you do but how you do it.

Asanas in which the pelvis is higher than the heart are advised against in cases of high blood pressure and during menstruation. Develop the ability to listen to your own body as the ultimate guideline in making these of decisions.
